The mathematics of a CAT scan is shoot a bunch of rays through your body at different angles and do fancy math to construct a 3D model from the strength of those rays on the other side. In radiation treatment for cancer, they START with a 3D model of something (like your prostate) and then calibrate the strength of the rays with exactly the same fancy math — IN REVERSE. It’s a reverse CAT scan. (I recently had radiation treatment, and I have a math background, and when I told the oncologist that, he said “You’re the first patient I ever had who realized that.”)
